Last year the Belleville Festival of Stories served 2,466 students who heard stories and participated in workshops.  We are inviting you to be a supporter of this year’s festival.

The Third Annual Belleville Festival of Stories will be held April 1, 2011 at Lindenwood University with some outreach into the community.  Our goal is to serve 3,000 students grades 4-5 and to inspire, delight, and educate them through the power of stories and the storytelling experience.  Stories teach us who we are and guide us in making better choices or they reveal the consequences of not heeding the wisdom within a good story.  In addition, stories teach us to listen, to pay attention, to be encouraged to read, to think, and to connect to each other through our common experiences as well as to appreciate what makes us unique and different.

On Friday, April 1 at 7 pm, the featured storyteller, Kevin Locke, a world renowned storyteller, Native American flute player and hoop dancer will engage and delight the audiences with his humor, his message of peace, and the powerful music and images he creates.  All children will be admitted free with an accompanying adult making a donation of at least $5.

We promise to do our best to serve the community through the art of storytelling in a way to create a positive experience to build character through stories.  If you would like to join the community of sponsors please send your check to the Belleville Festival of Stories c/o BASIC Initiative (334 Hazel Avenue, Belleville, Illinois 62223) by March 1 in order to be listed in the program brochure.

With great appreciation,

Nan Kammann-Judd & Marilyn Kinsella, Co-Chairs, Belleville Festival of Stories
