    When: Friday, March 27, 2009

                                Where: Lindenwood University, Belleville Campus

                                Who: BASIC Initiative and...you!

Imagine that! A day of storytelling where your students not only hear entrancing stories from nationally-known, dynamic storytellers, but also attend one of twenty edu-entertaining workshops that involve stories and character education. One of the goals of Belleville’s BASIC (Belleville Achieves Strength in Character) Initiative is to provide speakers and training to promote community of character. From this stated goal, the idea for the Belleville Festival of Stories was born.

Every student and teacher in Belleville from 4-6th grade is invited to attend for either a morning (9:00-11:00) or afternoon session. (12:00-2:00). During each session, half of the students will hear a nationally-acclaimed storyteller for 45 minutes, and the other half will attend a workshop on stories and character education by experienced regional tellers. Then, they will switch. They will then return to their schools. There are neither provisions nor room for lunches on the campus. Starting at 12:00 the afternoon group will do the same.

You are invited to be a part of this exciting, new, charter festival that we hope will grow in the future. This year, it is a one-day event for students and teachers from 4-6th grades.

We have received monetary donations from many sponsors, grants, and individuals. There is no cost for you to attend this festival… except your transportation. However, a donation ($100-$200) from the school or parents’ club would be greatly appreciated.
