1.C.1c Make comparisons across reading selections.
1. Lesson: Read or tell two different versions of Rumpelstiltskin (http://www.pitt.edu/~dash/type0500.html ) with one being the standard version from Grimm and one from a different country. . On the right of the Venn diagram list the characters, scenes, and objects found only in the standard version. On the left list the characters, scenes, and objects found only in the less-known version. In the middle list what they both have.

5.A.1b Locate information using a variety of resources.
2. The Name Game - Have the students find books at the library or find websites on naming a baby. They usually come with an explanation of the names. Give the students names to choose from or tell them they may use their own name (caution them that they may not find their own unique name). Have the students write out the definition of the names. On one side of a piece of paper write the names that were used. On the other side the definitions. See how many they can correctly match up.
