16.B.1 (W)    Explain the contributions of individuals and groups who are featured in biographies, legends, folklore and traditions.

16.C.1a (W)  Identify how people and groups in the past made economic choices (e.g., crops to plant, products to make, products to trade) to survive and improve their lives.

16.E.1 (W)  Compare depictions of the natural environment that are found in myths, legends, folklore and traditions.

17.A.1a   Identify physical characteristics of places, both local and global (e.g., locations, roads, regions, bodies of water). 

18.C.1    Describe how individuals interacted within groups to make choices regarding food, clothing and shelter.

 

List the characters (both seen and unseen) according to class

Ex. Royalty, Serf, Skilled labor, Clergy, etc

How do they contribute to the society

In groups select an object from the story and research its history, usefulness and its aesthetics

Ex. - spinning wheel, butter churn, saddle, etc.

 

Castle - Using any medium take the class on a tour of a castle pointing out the various rooms and what they were used for. Don't forget the tower!

 

 

Retell the story from a different time period.

Ex. - Ancient Egypt, Colonial America, Wild West.

 

 

             Your Choice Make a geographical map of the area where the story took place. Include the woods, the castle grounds, the tower, pathways and waterways. Things seen and unseen in the actual story may be included with a key off to the side
                Alchemy

Research on ways people have tried to make gold from other materials. Discuss why gold is a sought-after commodity. What other ways did people have to buy things besides gold?

           Spinning Wheel

Trace back the evolution of the spinning wheel. Find pictures of it on the Internet. What other devices did people use to make thread and cloth in the Middle Ages?

 

                    Costumes

Research the clothing of the wealthy and the poorer classes during the Middle Ages. What made the clothing useful to their life. When did style win over common sense?
