Suelaine Schaefer Matthews Class of 1967.

I remember passing through the halls between classes. We would rush to our lockers and then rush to the next class saying, "hi" to everyone along the way including the Nuns. One semester I made the honor roll and I must have had a look on my face because I received so many congratulations along the way. It was especially wonderful to hear congrats from the Nuns.

I also remember our Algebra teacher coming into the room and throwing open the windows because the room smelled of perspiration from wearing those heavy uniforms everyday. The blue gym suits covered any curve we might have had. They also smelled but we were forced to take them home every week to wash them.

My favorite teacher was Miss Soucy. She was responsible for me liking math. I was in Oklahoma and the Sound of Music. What fun we had back stage waiting to go on. To this day, I love those musicals. Carol Reeb was Maria and Susan Renner was the Mother of the Abby. They were both great! I loved first Fridays. We actually went to Mass at Cathedral and then would get a doughnut at a bakery and head for school on the City Bus.

I remember dusting the school after school to help Mom to pay for our tuition. My mom worked in the Laundromat at St. Elizabeth's Hospital to send us to Notre Dame. I longed to join the clubs after school but could not because I had to clean. I also remember graduation, We cried so much. I was very grateful for my education because it made my transition to college easy. I had the skills I needed.

We sometimes sing the Notre Dame song and the line, "The blue for hope, the white for purity," is always emphasized. Thanks to Notre Dame of all of the memories
