School Daze Stories

I now look fondly upon my school days. However, I struggled through school. I was in a daze through most of my school days. It did not come easy. Somehow, I muddled through, and now I'm grateful for my Catholic School Education.

Things have changed remarkably since I was in school. I even went back and taught for 11 years - mostly as a Catholic School Teacher. I discovered storytelling when I started my second grade teaching job at St. Clare's Catholic School in O'Fallon, Illinois, in the early eighties. It was while preparing my class for their First Holy Communion that I was inspired to write one of my first personal stories listed below "My First Holy Communion."

One of my cherished memories as a storyteller was when my home parish of St. Albert the Great, asked me to tell a story for their 50th anniversary party. It was only a week after "9-11" and emotions were raw. The celebration of the church was held in the loft of the old dairy barn (now a VFW Hall) where our church was originally located. It was there in the upstairs of that old barn that this little story took place. The response I received from those in attendance was heartwarming.

Each of the stories below holds a special place in my heart. I revisit my school, my classmates and my teachers each time I tell them. I have other stories that are begging to be told, but haven't found their way from my heart to the written page. I hope you enjoy the stories I have written. And perhaps, they just might stir up a memory of your own.
